Kentucky’s Quarter Horse Breeders’ Incentive Fund Continues To Reward Owners of Kentucky-Bred Show and Race Horses
(April 15, 2018) – With over a decade of evidence, the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association’s Breeders’ Incentive Fund (BIF) has demonstrated significant value to owners and exhibitors of eligible horses. Due to the unique and progressive structure of the BIF, Kentucky-bred Quarter Horses can earn prize money – more than $3.4 million has been awarded to date. Payouts are based upon points earned in American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) shows and races wherever they occur. Over the last three years of payouts (2014-2016), the average values of a show points was $38.10 and race points was $316.72.The KyQHA BIF has arguably demonstrated dramatic successes because of its basic approach. Rather than award the bulk of our funds as prize money or subsidies to existing breeders, the lion’s share of the fund has always been paid directly to all the buyers and exhibitors of eligible horses, regardless of where owners live, race or show. This increases market demand for BIF eligible horses, allowing breeders to receive a premium when their horses are sold. Breeders breed here, and buyers pay more for eligible horses, in hopes of earning awards from our BIF. Read more about the BIF and how it can work for you!
