For Immediate Release
January 15, 2007
On January 15, the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association (KyQHA) Board approved to lower the annual KyQHA family membership dues to $15 per year from $25 per year. The Kentucky Amateur Quarter Horse Association also approved a reduction in annual dues that week, lowering them to $10 per year. Kentucky Quarter Horse Youth Association dues remain unchanged at $10 per year.
Members who paid their 2007 dues at the $25 rate will receive an extra year of membership with the association. Current 3-year memberships will also be extended by one additional year.
Immediate KyQHA past president Bennie Sargent introduced the measure to encourage more participation in the association and reduce the financial burden of being in several equine-related organizations.
"We are concerned with the costs involved with being a member of various Quarter Horse Associations, especially for those youth and amateur families," said Sargent. "We believe reducing the cost of membership and continually looking for ways to give back to the membership of KyQHA is the right thing to do."
KyQHA President Norm Luba hopes that the dues reduction will not only grow membership but make more Quarter Horse enthusiasts want to take part in their industry.
"The Association had many successes in 2006 and we are working to make more things happen in 2007," noted Luba. "Those things are implementation of the Kentucky Quarter Horse Breeders' Incentive Fund (KyQHA BIF), improvement of our Affiliated Horse Shows program, and diversification of our membership and activities to meet the needs of all Kentucky Quarter Horse owners."
The Kentucky Quarter Horse Association, the official state affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), is a volunteer-led organization working to bring together youth, amateur and open exhibitors, breeders, racing fans and recreational riders.
