For Immediate Release
June 1, 2006
You are invited to become a “Founding Member” of the Darius Society (Est. 2006) by the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association (KyQHA).
The Darius Society, is an organization of individuals dedicated to promoting greater appreciation of the Quarter Horse in Kentucky, to aiding in the improvement of the business, leisure and political climates for all disciplines and sport uses for which Quarter Horses are well-suited, to furthering more widespread awareness of the heritage and the deep roots of sprint racing within the Commonwealth, to cooperating with other equine interests both within and adjacent to this state, and to fostering the most progressive, most open and most far-sighted approaches to the industry for the benefit of our breed and our state.
“The Darius Society is named in honor of Darius, a prominent sprint stallion in Kentucky in the 1780s. Darius was bred by Daniel Hardaway of Amelia County, Virginia, and was got by the noted imported horse Janus, his dam and grand dam by the same” according to a stud service ad in the Kentucky Gazette of March, 1788. Darius was so superior that the owner of yet another sprint stallion openly acknowledged his speed in ads for his own horse: “(He) is the swiftest in the district of Kentucke from one to six hundred yards, /Darius only excepted/.” (added)
The KyQHA was the first state affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) to establish a Public Policy Committee. AQHA’s Public Policy Committee has set a goal of raising $200,000 for their AQHPac. The dollars raised will go toward ensuring the United States Congress as well as state legislators hear the desires of Quarter Horse owners throughout the United States.
There will be only 40 “Founding Members” of the KyQHA Darius Society. Our contribution will be $4000 towards the $200,000 that AQHA is going to raise. If every state contributes equally, we will easily and quickly accomplish AQHA’s goal.
Please join our efforts and become a founding member ($100) of the Darius Society. Your personal check (no business checks please) can be made out to “AQHPac” and mailed to:
Darius Society
P.O. Box 910607
Lexington, KY 40591-0607
The KyQHA will assemble our contribution and present the checks to the Public Policy Committee.
