For Immediate Release Metzger’s County Store - Service to the Equine Community
“We got into the business sort of by accident,” said Charlie. “We were looking for something to do in our retirement” Well, if you travel along Shelbyville Road in Simpsonville it is very apparent they found “something to do” and then some. The Metzger Country Store has grown from a 600 square foot feed stop for neighborhood farms to a full service Purina Mills Dealer. With the help of Purina and the community, Charlie, his wife, Sue, Gary, his wife Diana and Mike were able to build a state-of-the-art facility featuring not only a full assortment of equine essentials but also serve the community as a garden center. Today Metzger’s Country Store stands as a prominent landmark in Simpsonville but it also is a resource for all things equine to gardening for the region. From Mike and Gary working out of the 600 square foot store in Eastwood, Metzger’s has grown to more than 12,000 square feet and now employees 12 to 14 full and part time employees.

When Charlie and Gary Metzger retired a few years ago they were looking for a small business that would keep them active. A friend was in the process of selling a small feed store in Eastwood.
The Kentucky Quarter Horse Association (KyQHA) is proud to announce that Metzger’s General Store has agreed to become a Platinum Sponsor contributing $5000 for the Kentucky Classic Quarter Horse Show scheduled for June 9, 10 and 11 at the Shelby County Fair Grounds. Metzger’s will be supplying feed, bedding and tack supplies during the three-day event.
